A new lighter weight design from Head we felt this was the pick of the bunch of this new Xenon series. Broader throughout than the XRC’s making this a better bet if you’re looking to dabble with more than the very occasional foray off-piste. Not quite a true all mountain ski but definitely at the all mountain end of ‘recreational’. Fun, secure and sensibly priced; just what you’d expect from Head.
WHAT THEY SAY:
HEAD invented carving to all intents and purposes with the Cyber, which was the first all-round performance ski. Then the C-Line revolutionised the segment by making the carving ski suitable for all terrain and for everyday use. From 2007 the rules are being changed again: HEAD presents the new XENON Line.
Skiers are demanding new widths of between 71 and 75 mm for multi-condition suitability. The XENONS are a completely new type of multi-condition ski with wider dimensions, less weight and maximum agility – the Aircoat models in particular.
The widest, lightest and most aggressively designed ski in the new XENON line is the Xi 9.0. Wide but with a tight radius. Light and agile but at the same time stable. Quick on the piste but versatile on soft snow. The Xi 7.0 also combines the XENON geometry with Aircoat performance. Outstanding performance and maximum enjoyment meet in the Xi 5.0. The Xi 3.0 and the Xi 2.0 offer the new XENON multi-condition concept at attractive entry-level prices.
The basis of the XENON Line is the new Aircoat Technology, which not only allows a noticeable reduction in weight but also increases the agility of the ski. How is this possible? By putting air in glass fibres! H-glass is made from hollow glass fibres manufactured using the most precise production technology. These are special, pipe-like glass fibres with unique qualities, higher specific cohesiveness, light weight and extreme stability. An attractive composite production material used in the automobile, aviation and space industries. Use of H-glass reduces the weight of toughened laminates by up to 40%.
